J&K has 223 ventilators; 400 more ordered: Govt

Srinagar: There is no dearth of medical equipment in Jammu and Kashmir to tackle the threat of Covid19 pandemic. The Health and Medical Education (H&ME) Department has refuted a news item in this regard carried by a news group today.

“The news item has been examined and the Department strongly refutes the news item regarding dearth of medical equipment including ventilators in the Government sector,” a statement from department said.

Giving details about the medical equipment, it said that number of ventilators in J&K is 223 currently, of which 91 are in Jammu and 132 in Kashmir and 400 more ventilators have been ordered and are being commissioned shortly.

As many as 8893 reagents are available for use in Jammu and Kashmir which are being augmented further, it added.

The statement said that there is absolutely no dearth of logistics and equipment and sufficient buffer stock of PPE, masks and other protection gear is available both at Srinagar and Jammu.

“However, keeping in view the civic efforts of various NGOs and Civil Society groups, certain amount of donations have been received as a goodwill gesture which are appreciable,” the statement added.
