DAY 23: Lockdown persists, many arrested for violating Govt orders

Srinagar, Apr 16 (KNO): The lockdown across Jammu and Kashmir continued for the 23rd day on Thursday with all the educational institutions as well as the markets remaining shut throughout the day.

Witnesses said that police and paramilitary troopers were deployed on the roads to enforce the lockdown across the Union Territory to ensure the virus is prevented from spreading.

Notably, the number of positive cases for COVID-19 is witnessing an increase with each passing day with the tally soaring to 314. The deadly virus has so far claimed four lives.

All the educational institutions including Schools, Colleges, Universities and coaching centres continued to remain closed while as the markets also wore deserted look throughout the day.

The traffic—both private as well as pubic continued to remain shut while as only essential sectors were seen open throughout the day.

Moreover, Jammu and Kashmir police continued to book the people who were found violating the government’s prohibitory orders issued under section 144 CrPC.

In Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, Police have arrested 28 persons and sealed four shops for defying the restriction orders imposed by government.

“Police have arrested 28 persons across Police District Handwara besides sealed four shops for defying the Govt restriction orders issued under section 144 CrPC,” police said, adding that accordingly, the cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective Police Stations and further investigations have been taken up.

Meanwhile, Samba police in Jammu division arrested one more person today for concealing his travel history.

Police said that a person identified as Sanjay Kumar, son of Gouri Shankar of Shahzadpur, Ramgarh was put to home quarantine with the assistance of Health Department and a case under FIR number 41/2020 under section 269/270/188 IPC has been registered at Police Station Ramgarh –(KNO)
