COVID-19: Lockdown persists for 28th straight day in JK

Srinagar, Apr 21 (KNO): Strict lockdown continued to remain in force across Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday in wake of the deadly Coronavirus outbreak in the Union Territory.

All the markets as well as the educational institutions including Schools, Colleges, Universities and Coaching centres remained closed in persuasion of the government to prevent the virus from spreading.

So far, over 360 persons in Jammu and Kashmir have been tested positive while five among them have also died. Over 75 people have also been recovered and have been discharged from the government hospitals in the Union Territory.

Moreover, amid continuous lockdown for 28th straight day, witnesses told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that police and paramilitary troopers remain deployed on the roads to enforce the lockdown, who had also erected concertina wires at many places, thus halting the vehicular as well as the pedestrians’ movement.

Besides, Jammu and Kashmir police continued to act tough against the persons who are found violating the government’s prohibitory orders issued under section 144 CrPC.

In order to prevent the spread of Coronavirus, police has seized 36 vehicles including ten bikes from different areas of Awantipora in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district after they were found violating the lockdown orders.

“12 vehicles were seized by Police Station Awantipora, three vehicles and one bikes were seized by Police Station Pampore while six vehicles were seized by Police Station Tral and five vehicles and nine bikes were seized by Police Station Khrew for violating the government orders,” police said.

In South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, one person was arrested while 13 vehicles were seized for defying the government orders.

Officials in Police Station Qaimoh arrested a person for violating prohibitory orders and a case under FIR number 18/2020 under section 188, 269 and 353 IPC has been registered against him.

Besides, 133 vehicles were seized by officials in Police Station Kulgam after they were found plying on roads against the government orders. Moreover, Samba Police has also booked three persons for hiding their travel history.

At Police Station Ghagwal in Samba, two cases under FIR number 33 and 34/2020 under section 269/270/188 IPC have been registered against two persons identified as Radhay Sham, son of  Chhajju Ram of Jatwal, Ghagwal and Sham Lal, son of Dev Raj of Mangu Chak, Ghagwal respectively.

A case was also registered at Police Station Samba under FIR number 99/2020 under section 269/270 and 188 IPC against person Ashok Singh, son of Chuni Lal of Satah, Samba for hiding his travel history.

“All the three persons have been put at quarantine center at Ghagwal immediately,” police said –(KNO)
